A Raven

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

We have an active raven’s nest near us but they never land on our property for me to get a shot. Well, one finally came into the backyard recently and briefly landed on the ground. Even though this is an ordinary “bird on the ground” shot, I am very happy to get it.

Excellent job on this Raven, Dave. The blacks are excellent for my taste with some reflections in the light and nice dark shadows that reveal a little detail once my eyes adjust to a black subject. A lower angle might have worked even better, but sometimes that’s not available (and it keeps getting more difficult as we age). Detail in the plumage is superb, and I like the head turn and eye contact.

Hi Dave
I agree with Dennis on this Photograph, nice work.

This one is excellent Dave. I love the blacks and the details.

Exceptional detail in the blacks here, Dave!
Love the inquisitive head turn.
It’s pretty centered, so moving the bird to the right and allowing more room on the left might improve this nice image.
Very well-done!
