Chattering Raven

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I heard what sounded like a very nearby woodpecker pecking and when I investigated, I saw that the source was a raven out on our deck rail making that weird sound. I grabbed the camera and got it in the act of making that call. BTW, I had to shoot thru glass to get this capture.

Specific Feedback

That stripe across the bottom is a bit of a distraction but it needs something to be standing on so I let it be. What say you?

Great pose by the Raven, Dave. They have an enormous vocabulary and a blast to listen to. My personal preference would be to have the raven much darker with the deeper blacks showing even a hint of blocking, but i nkow a lot of people prefer to see the detail in the feathers that brightening the bird can reveal.

I might just have to play with that…

Very nice close-up look at the Raven, Dave. Maybe decrease the highlights on the perch and background.
