Short Eared Owl in the Fog

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Several short eared were working over some cut hay field near the Lake Erie shoreline in dense fog. The fog was lifting and I caught this guy taking a peak at me from almost 250 yards out.

That’s an amazingly long shot, Jim. Detail looks quite good in the owl especially for that distance and fog. I’m not sure, but it looks like there’s just a bit of magenta color cast in the fog. It could be an illusion.

Thank you @Dennis_Plank. A Hail Mary shot of sorts and I think that you are correct about the magenta color cast. Easy to remove for sure…Jim

Hi Jim, nice backwards looking pose and I like the overall scene. Nice small in the frame composition. Subject is well placed.

Great shot Jim, at that distance I’m particularly impressed with the detail in the bird. The composition works well.
I’m with Allen & Dennis on the magenta cast.
