Description
Entering Silvacane Abbey, the exeptional light around the altar appeared like a vision to me. Together with the structures of the building, dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries, it made for a mystical atmosphere.

What wonderful ghostly light to suit the architecture!! I love the way you framed the structure – well seen and presented. Only one very tiny suggestion – you could do a distortion to pull the upper left corner out to make the column completely vertical – it’s probably off by 0.0001 degree…
Gorgeous light, Peter. I can see why it drew you and you did a fantastic job of portraying it. Like @Diane_Miller the slant of the pillar on the left edge bugs me just a trifle, but it’s a very minor nit on a wonderful image.
This has a wonderfully spiritual feel, Peter. It’s not just the light around the altar, but the bit spilling in down the stairway from the right, and the sense that the deeper we go, the more into the light we are. Even the color palette and mottling is like parchment, so there is a perfect historical quality to the image.
As the child of an ex-Catholic, this one speaks to me in a very deep way. Such iconography always strikes a deep, hereditary chord for me, despite being raised to revere American football more than any holy ghost.
I agree on the pillar to the left. I don’t know whether it would pull the closest arch apex over the center of the others as well, or whether medieval architects are merely as imperfect as we all are today. That’s the only itch that I get looking at this otherwise fantastic scene, very well shot, and perfectly processed.

Such gorgeous light! You handled the exposure great. The composition is quite nice as well. I think I would crop off the foreground column on the left and the slight sliver of light you see inside the foreground arch on the left. You have a wonderful image full of light, shadow, and texture. Well done!
