Singing Toad 1

Singing Toad 2

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

As spring moves along, the wood frog eggs have hatched and the American Toads are now trilling. These two photos were taken in a stagnant backwater along the Monococy River. From this photo session, it’s clear that these toads need to be on a wet rock or slightly in the water before they’ll sing. Their egg masses are long strings of black eggs.

Specific Feedback

#1 certainly has a macho feeling, while #2 clearly doesn’t care that he’s got some decorations…or maybe those are enhancements…

Nice images, Mark. I like the second one a little better as it seems to show off the toad a little better.

Wonderful portraits!! The first brings a big smile – makes me think of a statue in a Roman Plaza. The second one looks like he is poised for action. The decorations work well. (I always love finding a critter covered with Duckweed.)

I hardly see toads anymore – are they getting scarce?

Mark: Love the color palette on both and the reflection on the first. A face only a mother could love. Nice finds and captures. >=))>

Mark both images are nice ..and i would still look into the first one exhibiting the croak …and would this be better with a tighter crop …beautiful as is

Mark, I have been enjoying your frog images. The different shades of brown makes for a wonderful color palette. Do you know if he changed colors to match the environment, or if he just happened to be in an area that he blended so well?
