An interesting treatment, Sandy. I like the structural effect, but I find the grayish tones of the egret a bit too dull for my idea of “egret”. The background is very nice as is the composition.
Very interesting treatment. I agree with Dennis that the whites are a little gray. Also, like Dennis, I really like the BG. I always find myself wanting to see your photos larger!

I like the all the feather structure you show here especially on the back of the head. You picked a good image for this. I also like the yellow contrasting with the rest of the image and the gray/black background. I don’t mind the gray on the bird given the creative nature of the shot. Well done.
Neat processing Sandy. I love the contrast between the grays and whites-and the yellow lores draws my attention directly to the bird’s eye. Well done.
