Spotted Towhee

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This is the fairly typical habitat for the towhee, so I didn’t do my usual pruning and left this as an “environmental” shot.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

This is lovely, Allen. Beautiful shot of the Towhee and I like the environment, though I might be tempted to remove the one left to right twig over the birds head as it seems to be a bit of an eye magnet. I do like the rest of the background briars.

Great Towhee image, Allen. I love the pose and head turn. They’re starting to be quite numerous at the local wetlands, I think I need to camp out one morning with the tripod and gimbal and see if I can catch something like this wonderful one.

Lovely! Wonderful sharpness and environment. I like the touch of gray toward the UL. I could see a bit of softening or pruning in the UL corner but not a big deal.

Hi Allen
I have never see a Spotted Towhee, very cool. It’s very sharp and the coloring, framing and eye contact are really nice.

Allen, fine detail here, and great pose. Beautiful red eye too. I love the natural environment, but I’d probably still get rid of the front branch across the body.
Cool shot! Love Towhees!

Beautiful image of a beautiful bird. The bird, perch and background have fitted together so well. I didn’t notice the OOF across the front until @SandyR-B mentioned it. It dosn’t bother me.

I like it! I like Spotted Towhees, and this is a great image. I like the background textures and colors, I feel like it’s nice and blendy with the bird.
I agree about the ULC though, not sure it needs to be removed but maybe burned down the highlights or perhaps just some negative clarity. I do like the color in the ULC, though. Maybe it’s not really that distracting. The bird looks great, so that’s probably all that matters!

I’ve never seen a towhee or a photo of it before - beautiful bird! Well captured, nice and sharp. I’m all for a limited DOF, to make sure nothing distracts from the subject. Nicely done!
