The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I spotted this guy while picking tomatoes, and photographed him (it is a male, I discovered) primarily to identify him.
When I looked at the photo, I was surprised to see the detail, like the web structure, and the intriguing zigzag lines (apparently a feature of this species, purpose unknown).
Specific Feedback
I cropped the photo according to “rule of thirds” guidelines, and the elements of the photo cooperated well with that.
I would like to know if other members can suggest a more interesting, or a more pleasing approach.
Very cool, Pieter. While the web rings at the bottom with the small insect trapped do add to the story, I think a crop about half way up from the bottom the the lowest leg would make a more pleasing composition and give the spider more presence in the image. Those little fin-like protrusions on the abdomen are very interesting. I don’t recall seeing such before.
Pieter: Great subject and a solid capture. It looks like you have a good plane of focus and I wonder if you could have used a wider aperture to get some softness in the BG. You might try the portrait feature on your iPhone which does allow you to adjust the DOF after the capture. Still a very good find and a fine result. >=))>
I’m impressed that this was taken with a cell phone! Nicely done. As @Bill_Fach has mentioned it would be nice to have the BG more oof, but still nice, with good detail in the spider.
