Description
Dennis asked me what type of succulent this is and the general name for it is Mexican Snowball. Once the flower stems start to grow it is a nonstop show as the buds form and bloom. This is the first time this plant has bloomed and the flowers are altogether different than some of our others. While I was setting up to just shoot the buds this fly obliged me and landed on center stage. I’m not a particularly big fan of flys and wasps but this guy’s red eyes did get my attention. The tighter view is a crop. >=))>
Specific Feedback
Any strong preference for the wide or tight view?

Bill, these are really neat flowers. Thank you for sharing about them. I’m struggling with which version works best for me. I like being able to see more of the flower, but that puts the fly center of the image. Still the stems and buds make for a nice composition, so I think the wider version is my choice. The cropped version feels like the fly is too close to the edge of the image to my liking. Still a nice shot which ever version you choose. Nice sharpness where needed.
I think the tight view does a better job of showing off the fly/blossoms, Bill. Both are nice arrangements, but as long as the fly was obliging, stick with it.
Bill, this is a neat looking flower and you’re showing it off well. I like both views. The crop shows off the fly, the two flowers and the buds well, but the larger view with the centered fly is nicely dynamic with the buds angling in from near the three corners.
Wonderful capture! Both are excellent but I like the tighter crop for the slightly unconventional framing and the more prominence given to the fly and its flower. There is such amazing variety in succulents and this blossom color is new to me.
