Still Sitting Pretty

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

My gal hung around for quite a while perched on the day lily buds so I got to position the camera closer to an even plane with her body and was also able to shoot through some intervening FG leaves and butterfly bush flowers as well as get this BG. More DOF would have gotten the entire body sharper but then the color wash was weaker. F11 seemed the best compromise. All comments welcome. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Again I always want a tack sharp eye on these guys. Is the slightly OOF body an issue?

Very nice!! I love the perch and shoot-through and wonderful detail on the eye. I don’t mind the focus falloff on the abdomen but the OOF area seems to have more light on it which draws my eye – maybe reduce highlights there??

Very cool, Bill. When I looked at the small version, the out of focus foreground kind of put me off, but the larger two versions work extremely well. I do think bringing down the bright green spot on the left would be nice as it tends to pull my eye quite a bit.

I like the head of this dasher–lots of colors and soft lighting brings out the details. I myself would not try this type of shot, but you pulled off a very artsy composition. I think that this one works just fine…Jim
