The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
This tree, standing alone, close to a ridge, will never stop to amaze me. Facing storms, sun, wind, snow, clearly bruised but still standing.
Specific Feedback
The tree is my subject. I toned the rest a bit down to make the tree a bit more stand out and the grain shall show a bit the harsh conditions.
I like the picture but would be glad to know what you think, your impression or what you would do different

It is a lovely subject! It stands out very well with the BG subdued very nicely. I think I would add just a small bit of extra canvas on the top and possibly burn the limb that exits the frame on the left, but those are small things for an image that is lovely already!
I like the theme of your photo and what you were aiming for. The composition works and the dark BG makes the tree stand out more. B&W works well here. I would be tempted to dodge the tree even a little more. JMHO. The following is just my personal preference and nothing more. Some people like grain. To be totally honest, I never liked grain in a photo, even back in the analog film age. That’s why my film of choice was always Velvia 50. That’s not a criticism of the photo.
I love the black and white treatment here, really helps the tree stand out against the lovely dark sky. I agree with @Michael_Lowe that it might be good to slightly lighten the main part of the tree a bit to help it stand out even more from the background.
Nice one Ralf! I love how the tree just pops against that dark background. I also really like how there is more space above the tree in the second version of the image.
I’ve really been into black and white lately, more than usual. This is a beauty. The re-worked version is definitely an improvement as the crop at the top of the original made for a little uneasy tension. Your processing is spot on, though. Great work!
Hi Ralf,
This is another beautiful B&W image IMO. The stark looking tree stands out nicely from the darker BG of sky. I also like your rework with the little bit of extra space at the top edge of the frame hits the sweet spot. I also think the low POV works beautifully and places more of an emphasis on the tree. My only suggestion; just my personal preference; would be to reduce the grain a little as @Michael_Lowe already suggested. That being said, the bottom line is this is your image and if you like the grain go with it.
