Storm's Edge

Image(s)

Image Description

Another advantage of Summer Solstice is how late the sun sets. In this case, I was able to sit on my deck and watch as a major storm passed a few miles North of me, late in the day, with the edge visible to me. For perspective, the sloping ridge forming the skyline on the left is 4-5 miles north. A month earlier and it would have been dark.

Amazingly enough, I only saw one stroke of lightning and we got no rain. Later, when I checked the weather radar, the storm just got stronger and bigger to our North, all the way into Canada.

That’s pretty apocalyptic looking! I like the color contrast between the FG grasses and the clouds, and the comp is nicely balanced. I am wondering if the foreground grasses could be a tad sharper. I could also see a crop from the bottom to eliminate the dark green in LLC. I like how you held some detail in the hill on the left. Nice image, overall, Mark!

Dang, you have a spectacular view from your porch, Mark! Nice composition, with the way the red-roofed house, even though small in the frame, balances the rest of the frame. Beautiful.

Very dramatic. I can see this as a b&w as well, with the reds in the roof brightened way up. I would also crop some off the bottom so that the clouds and their shadows play the major role here.

Talk about your big sky! This image is very dramatic, but truth be told makes me nervous. I can really feel the storm bearing down on me with nothing in the way. Not a feeling I get here in Maryland (as you well know)

Mark: Count me among those who envy your Montana home and the skies that produce these kind of conditions. Beautiful scene superbly captured. >=))>
