Winter Storm Clouds

Image(s)

Image Description

This photo was taken from my backyard looking east as a winter storm was passing through the high desert of Oregon. It’s very exciting to watch these storm clouds build up and move through the sky, this time accompanied by a few snow squalls appearing in the lower part of the sky.

Ted, I think you’ve captured the sense of a “storm approaching” very well here. I’d be tempted to dodge the lighter bits in the upper cloud slightly, so they get a bit more attention. The three rain bands in the middle look good and show the details nicely.

Thank you for your comments Mark. I get your point about dodging the clouds in the top part of the sky. I did a fair amount of dodging and burning in the sky using a brush in ACR, but it’s always a game between doing too much or too little.

Ted: I envy you your back yard. What part of Oregon is this? I’ve spent lots of time on the coast ever since I was a little boy but much less in the mountains and parts east of the Cascades. Storm watching, especially from a safe distance, is so fascinating. Really nice capture of a unique moment. >=))>

Thanks Bill-
My home is in Bend, Oregon, so I get to look out over part of the high desert of Central Oregon. It’s a lot of fun to watch the occasional storm move through the area from the safety of my backyard. Lightning storms are the best, although they don’t happen too often.
