Stormy Cobble Beach

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

One from the archives. I do not think I have posted it before. We had high hopes for a nice sunrise, but the clouds were just to heavy, although they do add some nice drama in the sky with the B&W conversion. The light was really flat so it was a no- brainer to convert this image of Cobble Beach to a B&W. There was some wind and the tide was coming in which in turn produced some nice wave action on the cobble stones. The feet got wet on this one, but I did not mind at all.

Specific Feedback

Does the lean on the trees along the right edge bother you? Anything else you notice please feel free to mention it.

Technical Details

Nikon D700, Nikon 17-35 @ 17 mm, f22 @ 1/5 sec, ISO 200, cable release & tripod.

Ed, Good decision to go with B&W on this one, if the conditions were as you say. The moody clouds help make this image, but the wave action over the rocks is excellent.
A very mesmerizing image - fine work!

Thanks so much @SandyR-B for your thoughts; always appreciated.

Way to make some nice lemonade there, Ed. The B&W conversion was a smart move since there wasn’t much color to begin with. I like the dramatic looking clouds and the wave action. The trees don’t bother me. Before Photoshop we had to live with the byproduct of wide angle lenses so maybe I’m just used to it.
