Sunrise at Crystal lake with David Kingham and Jennifer R. It certainly was spectacular! However, it seems that it felt a lot better there than I am able to reproduce

Karl, this is a great scenic. I think it’s got a lot of drama to it. The only think I might suggest is cropping some from the bottom to get the horizon off center.
The colors are beautiful and I like the overall composition. I wonder if reducing the exposure or highlights a bit would help convey what you were feeling due to the resulting increase in saturation and introduction of some moodiness/mystery?
I would agree with Dean, I think the highlights in the sky are bit distracting and taking away from the overall scene. I also see some cyan in the shadow areas that could be removed using a Selective Color or Color Balance adjustment in Photoshop. Otherwise I think it looks quite nice!
