Sunset Quail

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I got this capture last night in the last light of the setting sun. He had stepped into a spot of sunlight.

Specific Feedback

His body facing right, and head facing left caused me to think centering him was the way to go. I did not have anymore frame at the top. Would it have been worth putting in some more on top?

Technical Details

Z9, 180-600 lens, Nikon 1.4 TC, monopod, cropped to 2860 x 3133, f 9.0, 1260mm, ISO 25600.

Nice pose here, and fine detail.
I don’t think it’s too centered, but a bit more room on the left, for him to look into, and on the top, might be good.
Seems a tad dark - perhaps lighten him aup a bit more?
Nice catch!

Nice light on the bird, Dave and excellent detail. I could see brightening the bird a little bit as suggested by @SandyR-B. The bright sun on the area behind it makes it a little difficult for the quail to compete for attention, so the extra light would help.

Hi Dave, love seeing these beautiful birds. Wish we had them in my area. A fine catch and I like the pose. Agree with the brightening suggestion and adding more room on left.
