The Drill Sargeant

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I was sitting on the porch yesterday evening and it was pretty birdy in the back yard. When the robins started going crazy in the bird bath, I gave in and went for the camera. I couldn’t get too close and these aren’t a large bird so this is quite a substantial crop, but I think it held up quite well.

Specific Feedback

Mainly composition. I Had just enough pixels that I could have done a portrait format and it would have held up for the web, but I decided to stick with the landscape orientation.

Technical Details

Sony A1, FE 200-600 @ 600 mm, hand held, f/6.3, 1/1000, iso 1250. Processed in LR & PS CC. Cropped to 2936x2216. Raised the shadows on the unlit side of the bird a bit and used a linear gradient to bring down the lichen on the perch. Taken yesterday at 6:04 PM.

Very cute Dennis.
And yes, it does look like a drill, sergeant.

Detail is perfect. So is the coloration and the background. Good depth of field.

Some of these avian posts lately have me taking a step backwards. The name says it all, Dennis. Excellent detail throughout the image. I like the landscape orientation here on this one… :+1:

It sure gets my ATTENTION! I prefer the landscape orientation, too. I like the way the green frames the upper portion. Excellent shot.

Dennis: excellent detaill and composition. Who knew that birds have attitudes!
