The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.
Description
I saw a seminar by Tony Sweet. I thought it was really cool and lots of technique information. So I tried a few shots to see what happens. Cole Thompson did an editing seminar using levels and curves as light adjustments. So I took both new techniques to me and came up with this photo.
Specific Feedback
Does this photo need more contrast… Camera movement photography is new to me. Turning the camera in a twisting motion or doing a lens pull… I decided to post this to hear on techniques and any information any one wants to provide. Always learning …
A very neat abstract and an apt title, Gil. I like this as presented, and as with most abstracts, you can go wild with variations on the theme by playing with the processing.
Gill, it’s great to see you experimenting and learning something new. Camera movement techniques help unlock a whole new world of creativity and it’s a ton of fun as well. I’ll have to look up Tony’s work. Cole’s editing process is so streamlined so good job incorporating some of his editing techniques.
I’d like to recommend this video from Beth Buelow on ICM if you are interested:
I like how your image fills the frame and the way the light seems to be pulled into the dark sections. This would be interesting as a black and white image as well. Keep up the nice work!
Thanks. I used a slight green as a tone. Kinda like grays in black and white photography. I’ve actually had green to look kind of silver in some shots. Just a different approach. I’m always looking for a new way to express myself.
It’s all there, Gill - interesting subject, artistic presentation and thoughtful processing. IMO more contrast would detract from the feeling of movement. I like the color and I’m not sure how you applied it, but wonder if the color could fade a bit more gradually from center to edge. Very nice!
I used the vibrance filter to change the saturation in photoshop. It’s kinda challenging to blend everything and make a Tone and not really a color. That’s just how I see it.
Thanks for showing interest. This ICM photography style is new to me. I’m learning as I go and listening to my reviews. I shot my acoustic guitar today. Just to see how it looks. Subjective photography for the most part. Having fun with it. !!!
At least for me, this is the wonderful thing about ICM - there’s no rules, right or wrongs… only “playing” (and thank you @Alfredo_Mora for posting @Beth_Buelow 's presention - I just watched - informative and inspiring! ) In fact Gill, if you haven’t already, highly recommend watching - plenty of techniques, tips and tricks!
totally optional and up to you! I think this is wonderful as posted. I like the little bit of color which kind of highlights the center of the image, and then fades to monochrome. I think you did an excellent job in both creating and post processing. I have no nitpicks or suggestions!
