Description
This morning I spotted a broken old wood-wasp’s nest lying in a field. Something was peeping out of one of the cells. I looked closer and found this jumping spider. He told me his name was Asianellus festivus. I gave him a respectful bow, and obtained his permission for a few portraits. With no fixed abode, he is always hungry and soon he had to go out to eat. So I thanked him and he wandered off, while I went to fetch my close-up lens from the car. When I returned, he proudly showed me the lunch he had just caught, a tasty katydid, rich in protein. I congratulated him and he had no objections to my immortalizing the moment. I reminded him it was said to be going to rain, and he grinned, and pointed to the leaf he would pull over his little cell were the weather forecasters to get it right for once. I laughed and bid him adieu.
Specific Feedback
I try to avoid flash wherever possible; these days we can raise the ISO/close the aperture and often get away with it. Could I have done better with flash for any of these shots?
