The Leap

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

This little Blue-gray Gnatcatcher was working the bushes at the Bolsa Chica Preserve in Southern California. I finally got focused on it in a fairly open setting when it made the jump to hyperspace. I think the slightly blurred wings help convey the movement of this guy.

Specific Feedback

Yeah, I know it has a messy BG, but that’s the way it was. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Technical Details

Canon 60D, f5.6, 1/5000s, iso 400, -0.7ev, 100-400 at 400mm. Cropped for composition.

Ed, you caught the take-off just right, with the bird nicely sharp.

Thank you @Mark_Seaver, for everything you do here.

I really like the subject, and its moment it was in. I do not mind the environment. I like the color variation of the bird and its background. I think this really works!

Perfect catch! Tack-sharp and great eye.
Positioned perfectly between the branches, so the environment isnt too distracting.
Fine work!

Thank you very much @Dave_Douglass and @SandyR-B. I hope your trip is going better Sandy. Can’t wait to see what photos you come back with.
