Description: This hillside probably had a single tree on it 150 years ago, this American Beech. The rest had been grazed off by sheep when the price of wool was high. Year by year—without the sheep—a mixed forest of trees have grown back and this old Beech hangs on. It is probably 250-300 years old. I like to imagine the many bears that climbed it over the years to harvest Beech nuts and leave some magic.
