We were INCREDIBLY fortunate to score a permit for The Wave. We met people who have been trying for 6 years. No kidding. Permits are very limited and lottery style. But then, we’ve been told by many all our lives that we seem to have some kind of luck…
The Wave is unlike any other I’ve seen on this planet. talk about Nature’s architecture!! The photo speaks for itself. I, of course, have so many images from our day there, but this was my favorite (I think), and is the classic image you’ll see from there. Resistance was futile (in taking the classic shot). But oh what fun that day that was…

If you don’t know what you’re looking at, is it disorienting? Or ok as an abstract? I have others with a person in it that gives scale, and actually increases the sense of absurdity. But I’m not real big on people photos…

Midday light, cuz it’s a trek to get in 'n out in one day!
This is a great image. I haven’t been there myself and I love the depth and the way it invites you to walk in and explore. The different shades or orange adds to this sense and it has so much variety of curves that you can spend some time investigating all of it. It doesn’t seem disorienting at all and I think a person here will interfere with the wish to go in and explore. Not knowing the size or scale of this adds to the play and fun of the picture. I also don’t put people in my pictures most of the time and here I really don’t see a reason. I think it is a wonderful abstract.
I have one response…WHEEEEEEE!!!

Thank you Tamar. The one shot I have of this particular view with a person in it was kinda funny - it was some young woman in bright pink tights & skimpy top climbing around on the rock. She just looked so out of place with the rugged landscape, not to mention silly & in complete disregard for what this intense desert environment could do to her without any sun protection. But it makes me laugh every time I see it ;<)
In a workshop I was recently somebody definted these non photographers as civilians, it was very funny but it depicted accurately how crazy other people are acting in nature, with no regard to the place or to themselves.
