About This Image
Simple image - driven by the colours and light. To me the plant below the flower looks like a witch ??!!
Soft focus and colours which I have played with. Strong directional sunlight made things a little interesting technically
The mist is my addition , and the witch is enhanced by lots of dehaze
Feedback Requested
Like it or hate it? I don’t mind
Colours do look good printed
Too manipulated?? Is it Art ?? lol
Huw: You’re making me nostalgic for shallow DOF. Several years ago on the old NPN we would do a challenge called SOA - Shallow On Arrival. It was a lot of fun but at that time there were still a few folks shooting and posting film images where single capture was the only option. Intriguing image. I love the colors you have here. My conventional first impression would be to crop some from the right since the flower seems to be leaning left and there is too much negative space on the right. However, when I crop from the right and even if I expand the canvas on the left the tension leaves and it becomes more meh. Therefore, leave it as is and make the viewer think a little even if it triggers a headache. >=))>
Hi Huw, really nice use of soft focus to create the perfect mood for this image. I was drawn immediately to the core of the flower but also noticed the “witch” on the right. Great title. Nice colors too. I agree with Bill that this crop works.
This is very cool! I really enjoy soft focus photos when they work and I think this works really well! I enjoy how the stamen are still pretty detailed while the rest has a nice soft focus to it. Great colors as well!
Wow, the more I’ve looked at this, the more I love it.
I’ll start with loving what you did with the colors. The poppy color is rendered perfectly, and I love the soft focus. The hues of green really compliment the orange/yellow of the poppy; from the pale “mist” to the yellow greens of the “witch”. Just wondeful colors.
The soft focus (and/or additionally blurred in post?) is used to great effect. Now I can understand you might see a “witch”, but i see more of an alien figure, or something from the movie “Alien” or maybe even Lord of the Rings - a very under-nourished Smeagol…
No nits or suggestions - and I can’t see a viable crop either. Well done!
