Thor's Well + Video

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I grew up in Indiana but my mom’s parents lived in Oregon. My grandfather passed away in 1956 so my grandmother sold all their other property and moved to their beach house in Yachats. At that time Yachats had a population of about 100. I spent many summers there and try to go back to the coast as often as I can. Just south of Yachats is the Cape Perpetua area with Cooks Chasm and Thor’s Well. I’ve taken many images of the well from the observation area with a long lens and was fairly happy with them but last year I had a drone and was able to shoot it from straight overhead. On this morning I had particularly nice conditions with rough seas, good light and light winds that made flying easy. I took a ton of shots and several videos but this was the best of the stills. I have a large print in my office and it gets a lot of comments. All of yours welcome. >=))>

Specific Feedback

I’ve been pretty impressed with the image quality of this little drone. Camera controls are a bit limited but for this kind of image they are quite adequate. I’ve included a video of the action with the tech details.

Bill, this looks great. At first glance, I was thinking mushrooms…then it became clear that it was mushrooms of water. The splashing action is awesome. That touch of blue in the main “water hole” adds a nice bit of extra interest.

Bill, nature sure has a way of providing some awesome photo ops such as this scene. The drone camera did a wonderful job in providing an image pretty much unobtainable any other way… :sunglasses:

Oh My.This one definitely has the Gasp Factor. And yet…without knowing what it is, it also stands as a lovely random abstract of contrasting lights and darks. My eye enjoys roaming , and lingering through it all. Best of all worlds. Great job Bill.

Bill,
Wonderful details in this scene. I particularly like the way the water fans out away from the hole. Certainly a different take on this popular spot. Very nicely done!

Hi Bill, Quite an awesome image you have shared with us. The very tall tripod position provides quite a unique experience. Well done.
