Three Stars

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Since Kris posted a day lily I decided to look at some of the many images I have from this season and thought I would share these two depictions. We all have different ways of rating captures. I use the star method and generally don’t give consideration to anything less than 3 stars. Both of these rated 3+. Both are three shot stacks with the anthers isolated.>=))>

Specific Feedback

Does the tight version appeal to you? BG still too busy despite the relatively shallow DOF?

Gorgeous!! The top one for me! I love the breathing room and the anthers are quite prominent. The BG is nicely subdued and the yellows are very well managed. Perfect soft light!

A beautiful image - love the yellow day lilies . Your usual fine detail and BG.
I like both comps, but prefer the first without cut-off edges.
Just lovely.

Both images are gorgeous, Bill, but I’d personally go with the looser composition. I like the background in it and the vertical just feels a bit cramped to me. No nits on either one.
