Last weekend, I was photographing bumblebees on the grassy heath when I saw my first witch’s hat. The first image was still in bumblebee photography settings. Since it best captured the tiny world of heath plants, I chose it despite the suboptimal camera settings.

What do you think, are the leaves on the left too distracting?
Kathrin, I think the leaves do a fine job of framing the little mushroom. I also like all of the subtle colors throughout the frame. This makes a very attractive view. I do think that some edge burning along the bottom would reduce the visual impact of that out-of-focus area.
Aww, these are some of my favorite hygrocybes and I love how ethereal a scene you’ve created here. It really accentuates the mysterious quality of mushrooms. The framing is nice as is the contrast in texture and color. Some judicious edge darkening (but not too much!) could work well here. What a terrific little landscape.
Kathrin: What a great find and a fine capture. That red really grabs one’s attention and your DOF management is terrific. I do like what @Don_Peters did but your original is stellar. >=))>
Oh yes. I compared the pictures, and really, the white at the bottom is distracting. I started painting and discovered it’s fun Thanks so much to you, @Don_Peters, @Mark_Seaver , @Kris_Smith and @Bill_Fach for your encouraging review!
cute little mushroom!! I have found a few orange ones like that here. They are minuscule to the point I have to put my camera on the ground. The tripod is too high for them
