Transpiration

Image Description

This scene unfolded as I drove home from a dawn shoot. I pulled over and was only able to photograph from one side of a barbed wire fence. I quickly put my telephoto on and found it challenging to focus due to the backlight, and high contrast. The light also changed rapidly! It was a truly magical experience, watching this young Blackwood tree ‘Breathe’ I later contacted the farmer to gain permission to enter his property so I may be able to gain closer access to these trees in the future. He happily obliged. I wanted to convey the absolute feeling of awe I felt as I watched the light and the mist merge from the forest behind, and the sunlight touching the leaves of this young Blackwood tree creating gentle streams of water vapour lifting off. Magic!

Tonal range was challenging due to high contrast, and exposing for the highlights.

The Light and the Tone is just so good.!!! Handheld was the perfect way to shot this image. Title this image “Breathe” as you said in your Image Description. Really nice and I would not change a thing. I am following you as well as others. Keep shooting and posting your images. Beautiful !!!

Fantastic image. Before reading your description, I thought to myself, “WOW, the tree is actually breathing, or preparing for lift off!”

Whoa! This is amazing Joy. Absolutely love how the highlighted mist lifts the eye from the tree and brings it back to where I started. Well done.

Joy: Welcome to NPN and thanks for a wonderful image. You have set a high standard for yourself with this one. The mist coming off the tree would certainly stop me from passing by and you captured the light just perfectly. Well seen, captured and presented. Just a superbly crafted shot. >=))>

Joy, catching the mist rising from this tree with the strongly angled lighting is magical. It’s truely nit picking, but your strong, sharp logo at the same angle from the tree and the light looks like there’s another tree there in the corner. I’d suggest darkening it and possibly moving it to the other corner.

Well, you’re starting off here with a bang. This is just stunning! So different and unusual. It pays to be in the right place at the right time and to be keeping your eyes open. This image is truly other-worldly. It perfectly illustrates that trees do breathe. Just incredible.

Hi Mark Unfortunately I recently had 6 images stolen off my website the watermarks removed and the thief then tried to post them onto our Aurora Australis fbook page they have over 300k followers and the admin knows my work and alerted me. Hence the strong watermarks. I wont remove them. Thank you for your feedback. I really appreciate it. :folded_hands:

Sorry to hear about the image theft. Sadly, with today’s AI tools, even a strong watermark won’t deter a determined thief.
