Treasures in the River

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

With my new 1.4 teleconverter installed, I went yesterday to our nearest National Park to look for dippers in the river there. After a lot of walking and no sighting of the birds, I began to cross a bridge. Looking down I was enchanted by the blend of dappled stones on the bottom and ripples on the surface, both bathed in golden afternoon light. It was only when I got home and looked closer at the shots that I noticed the prismatic effect along the ripples - all the little rainbows. (Later , I finally saw a dipper; but the light was a too low for a good shot).

Specific Feedback

Do look at the larger version, which I think makes the shot less ordinary. Do you agree?

Technical Details

OM1 + 100-400mm with TC1.4 (@560mm) 1/400 f9 ISO 1600

Tonal adjustments in LR; in PS experimented with Shadows, Highlights, Curves and Vibrance to enhance the prismatic effects. The view was a little less golden originally, but not much. Cropped.

A lovely image, Mike. It’s the first time I’ve made the connection on those colors in the river bed being the result of diffraction by the water ripples. Looks like horrible chromatic aberration in some ways, but it sure made for a lovely abstract.

How cool!! A wonderful find and presentation!
