Triangulation

Image(s)

Image Description

Black ice on our local lake doesn’t happen every year due to snowfall timing. So when it does, it’s a community event, with half the town showing up to play: figure skaters, hockey players, long range skaters, random recreational skating, ice fishing, etc. Then there’s me on my Norwegian kick sled photographing them all, not to mention the incredible otherworldly ice formations. This was a rare take on a single hockey player, with puck & stick visible, approaching me backlit in the sun. I got down low to make sure all the reflections were a part of it.

I took this many years ago, & would like advice/help with: what to do with the starburst artifact - should I try to fix it, & if so, how?

Connie, the double sun burst makes a great triangle with the hockey player. The “direct sun on the lens” artifacts are quite normal and fitting. You routinely see video/movies where the director takes advantage of flare to make a particular statement.

Thank you Mark. I’ve heard that before, but wasn’t sure if it fit here. I tend to think it does also. -Connie

Agreed that the lens flare doesn’t necessarily hurt the image, as it helps complete the triangle.

Only thing I’d watch for in this is the tilted horizon. Otherwise, I love the shot.
