Tufted Puffin with dinner

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I had the opportunity to go out on a boat in the Juan De Fuca strait near Puget Sound in Washington. Specifically to photograph Puffins. We saw Horned and Tufted in abundance, no Atlantic. Catching them with dinner and not swimming away was a challenge.

Specific Feedback

Any feedback is welcome.

Technical Details

OM-1, Om 15-600, 600mm. f/6.3, 1/1600 sec. Hand held.
LR for minor adjustments and cropping.

My one shot was too far away and about to swim away, Charlie. No food in bills for me. I like this image as presented. You could crop to a more horizontal aspect ratio since there’s not much of a reflection to deal with, but that’s pretty arbitrary. I’d love to see an underwater video of how they get and retain so much prey-maybe hold it in place with their tongues?

Hi Charlie, nice to see the bird with all those fish. You could try cropping in some but I’m not so sure image quality would hold up. Nicley composed overall.

An iconic Puffin shot with all those fish. Well done, Charlie.

Thanks. Happy to get it.
