Variegated Fritillary in Flight

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Here is a fun image of a butterfly in flight. We have a Variegated Fritillary taking a cruise through a Bird of Paradise. The colors and shapes in a Bird of Paradise are very intense and it’s hard to make a butterfly stand out. I desaturated the flower a lot, but it’s still pretty crazy.

In Arizona, the Variegated Fritillary lives primarily in the grasslands. This one snuck down to my neighborhood in the desert.

Russ: Unlike some of your dragonfly shots this is not readily apparent as a flight shot but who cares? This is a terrific capture of this little beauty and the flowers are the perfect complement. I also like your placement of the butterfly in the frame. Exceptionally good work here. >=))>

The flight part doesn’t show from this angle, Russ. The clarity of the butterfly and the details in the flower look great.

Gorgeous shot of this butterfly, Russ, and it really works with that flower.

A stunning capture! It looks like the BF has found the perfect camouflage, yet he stands out wonderfully!

Wow! This is good! A riot of colour but not overdone. It’s quite amazing how well the butterfly stands out.

Beautiful butterfly on a great plant. Really nice detail and colours. I personally prefer not to have stuff cut off along the edges, but that’s just me - this works very well. I don’t think you had many choices here, without going to a larger crop.
Fine image!

I like how no part of the flowers overlaps with the butterfly, and you caught it at an excellent angle. I also like how the colors match. Very nice shot.
