Hi Chris,

Welcome to NPN! Glad you decided to join and share your first image (haven’t checked in the New member section yet…)

Very nice landscape image from your hike. I can see why this scene attracted you. That old snag has a lot of character and I like how you’ve included in the frame - with some context of it’s location; the beautiful lake and complimentary sky and grand view.

Processing looks great! I have no suggestions in terms of color, exposure, WB, etc. The only nitpick I have is the small patch of leaves in the LRC, lower right corner. Easily cloned out/removed in PS, LR or Adobe Camera Raw. very minor, but detracts from the overall scene.

Thank you for sharing! We look forward to your images and your participation!

Lon

Thank you Lon! I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. Yep, that section in the lower right could also easily be cropped out (and was in the version of this picture that I cropped to fit on a 16 : 9 desktop format.) That’s probably why I didn’t notice it in this shot with the more standard dimensions.

Thanks again!

Welcome Chris! Are you a fellow Washingtonian?

I love Fidalgo and Whidbey, but have never truly explored them photographically; I really should one of these days. That is such a wonderful area, and your image really conveys the mix of ocean and forest. I really enjoy the mix of warm and cool in your image; the blue of the water and sky matches well with the green and yellow of the land.

I do wish the dead tree, which is a wonderful addition, didn’t block the view of the water sweeping around the corner, but realize there may have not been other options.

Thank you, John! Yes, I am a fellow Washingtonian and love to hike and photograph in the Anacortes area. This particular shot was taken from a hiking trail in Washington Park but is also accessible from a parking area along the road through the park. There are lots of options for framing shots from this viewpoint, but this dead tree caught my eye due to the unusual shape (kind of like a funnel?) and the contrast between the dead tree and the living plants around it.
