I have been struggling with the abandoned power house images for quite some time. The power house is situated deep in a wet rainforest. A storm had passed over, so the sky was overcast, the building was dark except where the roof had collapsed creating a bright spot.

I struggled with the light in all these images., and noise was a problem. So decided to go darker than normal. Did it work?

Wow! This is a haunted forest!! I love that I have to struggle a bit to make out the details – those two windows seem to loom out of another world! And the leaning trees seem to be trying to hide it. My only suggestion might be to try to bring out the mystery with some filter-type processing – maybe Nik CEP Glamour Glow, if you have the Nik set. Or maybe more darkening at the top to keep eyes in the center? Gorgeous as it is, this is such a lovely subject to play with!!
This is kind of spooky and certainly works for the Weekly Challenge. The slightly darker processing works beautifully here and adds to the mystery IMO. I like the way some of those trees on the right are leaning into the frame; almost as though they are doing their part in trying to obscure the power station from prying eyes. I did not notice this until opening the larger image, but it appears as though some graffiti artist is hard at work.

Glennie, the slightly dark view sure fits the sense of nature reclaiming this building. You’ve done a fine job of making it “lurk” deep in the forest. At NPN sizes, I don’t notice significant noise and I like the way everything blends together as the building’s color coordinates well with the ground and the trees leaning in from the right. Given all that, I wonder how a bit more burning-in of the brighter bits at the top and under the roof triangle would look?

I agree with folks above, Glennie. I love the dark processing of these images from the old power station. The mystery, the sense of a past that has outlived its usefulness, the density of the forest: they all create a wonderful mood, sense of history, and story. I can imagine a very meaningful project emanating from this, maybe even a show in the area where this history is recognized by locals?

This is lovely, Glennie. Personally, I don’t see spooky, but I do like the angle you shot this at that eliminates all the other walls and the roof just leaving a facade with trees both in front and through the windows. It’s interesting that this was shot with a wide lens as it almost has a foreshortened look to it with the vegetation right up against the wall.
