Hi Don,
I really like this image. It caught my eye immediately, in part because of the linear shadows and edges, which create some mystery. It’s not just water and horizon. There is something else there, but we can’t quite make it out: a bridge? a pier? an illusion?

And then the colors. The gradient from warm to cool (or vice versa depending on where your eye lands first) make this a very pleasing photograph even while it creates mystery.

Nicely done!
ML

Marylynne, thank you. I think the “something else” you’re referring to is the bright trapezoid at the top. It’s upstream water reflecting the sky.

It’s actually the other parts, Don. Then again maybe I’m losing it. But to me, it’s the mystery of the dark linear shape I’ve traced here.
ML

Now I understand. The dark areas are a key element in the composition.

Exactly, the bright trapezoid is the draw, but the darkness to the right is the mystery for me,
ML

I was looking at this image from a completely different perspective when I started reading the discussion between you and Marylynne which is an interesting way of looking at the scene. It makes me wonder a bit if the faint edge light that defines the diagonal of the trapezoid is beneficial or if it gives too much away.

That’s a good question, Dennis. I’ll give it some thought. Thanks.
