At the horizon line in the very middle was the sun setting. I tried to blend in the horizon line in to smooth it out. It looks to me that it still needs some work.
Pertinent Technical Details
This image was taken at 0.5 Sec @ f7.1, ISO 64 with an Olympus 40-150 - 2.8 lens.
Somewhat of a long exposure (0.5 sec) to get the smooth effect on the water.
Wow - such bold and dynamic colors! Of course as an abstract, there are no rules and in this case I’m really digging that big contrast and deep color - and color where the saturation is strong, but not overdone or out of place. I especially like the reflected color on the sand at the bottom.
Yeah, I suppose if you are looking to have a clean line with no artifacts, then that horizon could use some work. But it begs the question for me, was the sun still above the horizon before editing? Or had the sun just gone down. Other than the distance and atmospheric haze or the “green flash” phenomena, not sure why there would be any issues there - unless the results are from cloning/masking out the sun itself? Not sure what to suggest without seeing what you’re working from.
No matter to me, again this is quite bold and I think you’ve succeeded in this one!
Roger, This looks like a most effective ICM. I agree with @Lon_Overacker’s comments. The contrast created with the blacks in the waves works quite well. I might crop a tad, maybe a third of the bright yellow jus because my eye is drawn there right away.
Roger: As an avowed color junkie this really appeals to me. I love the full spectrum and how it grabs my attention. It’s also cool that you got this much motion in the water with your SS. Nicely conceived, captured and presented. >=))>
I went back to the original image and the sun had just set below the horizon line. Thank you for your suggestions and kind words. When I saw the image on my computer I knew I had to just push the colors and saturation. Normally I wouldn’t do that to a photo, but this one just spoke to me in that regard. It’s always fun to see how things will turn out when you start pushing sliders.
Roger, this is quite startling, which works fine as an abstract. The movement in the water looks good and the angled orange (sand) and blue color shift near the bottom add balance. I do wonder how slightly desaturating and darkening the bright yellow in the sky would look. (As a test, not sure it would be an improvement…) Some very careful cloning from the left can fix the center of the horizon.
