One of a few ICM’s I captured during our innaugural NorCal get together at the Marin Headlands, just on the other side of the GG Bridge. A patch of summer wildflowers was the subject here. Bluebird skies and a brisk wind hampered any straight landscape photos, so ICM it was!

I tried to bring out as many different colors as I could without oversaturating and maintaining a fairly neutral color balance. Do the colors/WB look good to you?
Not sure why, but I’ve found in general with these types of abstracts, that a negative clarity and positve texture produce decent effects. How is the balance between texture and detail?
Of course all comments and feedback welcome!

A bit of a crop from original. Adjustments in both PS and ACR to affect color, texture, vib/sat and some minor cloning here and there.
Of your recent ICM images, this is my favorite. There is such a nice flow here. The WB and Sat look just fine to me and I love the variety of color. No nits from me, Lon.

I love the colors and the playfulness of the vegetation jumping over the background colors. It looks almost like a multiple exposure. I think the colors look great with a nice pleasing combinations of purple yellow and green. I also think the combination of texture and detail is well balanced. You get enough details to perceive the lines and shapes of the vegetation and it creates a nice texture. Really fun nice picture.
This is perfectly done Lon. It looks like an abstract painting, with soft brush strokes of color in an artist’s canvas. These ICM images can be tricky to get to look just right, but you’ve accomplished that here. I’m wondering if you tried getting it on the first try, or maybe a few attempts. I also find that a little negative clarity with some texture works well on many images to give them a softer look. Sure works great for you with this image.
Lon, this looks great! Your subtle (multitude) of colors and the mix of arcs and angled lines makes a very pleasing and relaxing view. This is nicely meditative.
Ted, honestly with most ICMs… hit or miss, miss, miss, miss… and most times there are many exposures before you hit one that comes out. Specifically here I went back and checked Bridge and during a period of less than 3 min, I made 30 exposures! It’s actually more methodical than one might think. It’s not completely random as if I had my eyes closed and randomly snapped the shutter. But after each exposure, I check the result; then I modify the movement, shutter speed or whatever and build on what was working or not. I would say it is pretty rare to get a result on a one-time try.
Also, of those 30 frames - about 1/2 of them are worth processing. I kept shooting this little cluster of wildflowers because I was getting pleasing results.
Thanks Diane! Actually the motion and results here are almost predictable; I actually have many images now with the same/similar patterns. What changes of course is the subject matter. I almost didn’t post because I’ve had similar results so many times it was no longer unique… (to me of course.) But dang it, it’s fun!
