Weeping Cherry Tree - Japanese Garden

This Weeping Cherry Tree in the Portland Japanese Garden is thought to be over 75 years old–you can tell by the huge trunk. The branches are so heavy that they needed to use braces to keep them from breaking. This is one of the most popular signs of spring in Portland. I took this on March 26.

This is an 11 image focus stack. I chose f/16 to minimize the size of the closer OOF areas so the far areas aren’t blocked. Processed in Capture One using the Helicon Focus plugin to generate a stacked RAW DNG image.

David this is a great photo of the the Japanese garden. The subtlety of the blossoms are often hard to capture. I really like the slightly desaturated greens in the photo, it makes the cherry tree pop and still convey an after the rain or atmospheric scene.

Josh, welcome to NPN and thanks for the nice comments. I know you’ll get a lot out of the site and I look forward to seeing your images.

Cheers,
David

Hi David! Beautiful image of this iconic cheery tree! I haven’t been to the gardens in several years and this makes me anxious to go back.

Well done!
