Image Description

I consider this image an Abstract Surrealism image, thus requiring the viewer to provide their own interpretation as the title suggest, " What Do You See." Perhaps as with a Jackson Pollack or Willem de Kooning it may well evoke a reaction of some kind, including rejection of this type of art presentations. As indicated in the Technical Details it is a high speed capture of the reflections present in small ripple like waves created in the water by the wind.

Technical Details

I enjoy images like this immensely, Robert. To me, it is clearly reflections of blue sky and orange boats or docks or something like that on the rippled surface of a body of water, perhaps a lake or bay.

When I look at abstracts like this, I often simply appreciate the colors and shapes. I don’t try to find other subjects in them. For me, this image is both warm and cool, and it evokes the water and the sun in a slightly off-kilter (because diagonal) fashion. Diagonal and water to me has a bit of energy, anxiety, and instability (like the feeling of pushing the limits of the centerboard on a small sailboat!).

This is a nice one. The colors really work and the dynamism of the diagonal is exciting.

Thank you very much Marylynne. I really appreciate your insight and reaction to this image. You have given me a new direction to consider about this image. Robert

Hi Robert, this is a cool water abstract! Wonderful color combination with the warm and cool colors. The interweaving shapes invite further study. Some may find the darker shapes in the upper left distracting but they help add another interesting visual element to the image. I like the energy from the diagonal lines. You probably tried rotating and flipping the image but I also like as it is. No wrong way with water abstracts. Good work!

Having done some water reflections lately, that’s what this reminds me of. Without the “nature” restrictions, I’d have guessed something in a marina to get those colors.

Thank you Alfredo for your comments. Yes the shapes on the upper left are darker, but as you indicated they do add another visual element to the image and I feel additionally they are balanced by the lighter shapes on the lower right. Thank you again. Robert
