White-throated Sparrow

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Another shot from Central Park. A bird I’m thrilled to see in Oregon on the rare occasion one makes an appearance, but incredibly common in the park. I’m happy with the pose and background.

Specific Feedback

Any thoughts appreciated.

Technical Details

Canon R5; 100-500 with 1.4 TC at 700 mm; 1/1000 at f10, +2/3 EV; ISO 10,000. NR in DXO-amazing what these NR programs can do to an image that would have been discarded a few years ago.

Hi,

If you have the space, a little more room on the bottom and you can take off some on the LH side. The BG is nice and your subject is nicely focused on and perfect lighting for one of my favorite sparrows…Jim

I’d be pretty darn happy with this, too. Great pose & bg, light & activity. I particularly like all the angles converging. Looks like it will take off at any second, and probably did. White throats are some of my favorite little birds. They’re so industrious and this shows it really well. You could lighten the face and eye a touch for more engagement. Nice catch all around!

Allen, such nice details in this cute little bird. I like the perch he is on, and the pieces of leaves it looks like in his beak. The side look he is giving you makes the shot too. I too would be happy with this shot. Well done.

Wonderful capture with perfect detail, a nice perch and perfect BG!! I think @Jim_Zablotny has a good suggestion for adjusting the framing.

Allen, what a fantastic catch here. Bird and background are awesome. I haven’t seen one of these here in Oregon, will have to keep my eye out for them.

This is definitely a 5-star keeper…David

Beautiful image, Allen. Excellent pose, the bit of greenery in the beak is a nice touch and you have a good perch and great background. I could see a touch more on the bottom, but it’s not a deal breaker.
