Not often I’ve seen a snipe in the open like this. The background is the Deschutes River in central Oregon.

Not the habitat I would associate with a snipe, Allen, but all the cooler for that. A couple of summers ago we had one that would fly up to a utility wire that ran along a flooded field and call. It was on a route we often take and was so unusual that I eventually managed to grab a phone photo and checked the ID from that.

Hi Allen and wow! Great to capture a snipe on this perch with a great background. All my snipe shots have the bird buried in the tall grass. Fine feather detail, pose, and composition. Well done.
