Description
The desert provides many opportunities for abstract and intimate landscape scenes. Among my favorite scenes are the lines and curves in the sand dunes, mainly of the wind-sculptured ripples along the dunes’ surface.
Each visit to the dunes provides a new experience. The landscape is constantly changing every time the wind blows, the rain falls, an explorer leaves footsteps, and the shadows inch along the landscape as the blistering sun treks across the sky.
The autumn mornings are my favorite time to wander through the dunes. The crisp desert air, and cold sand between my bare toes is a magical experience. Though, the sunrise trek in July was unforgettable – 100F at 5:00am when I started, and 110F at 8:30am when I returned to the car! Images #2 & #3 are from that morning, and I consider them to be among the best film images I have made.
