Welcome to NPN , Timothy. This is a fine first post and I’m really looking forward to seeing more of your work and your comments on other folks efforts.

This image works for me as posted. The background works fine for a winter shot and I like the head on pose. While B&W can make some interesting images and it’s easier to modify to change the mood than color, I see no reason to use it on this image.

Welcome Timothy! I think you captured a great pose. The detail of the frost and ice in the hair is great, along with the frosty glare in its eyes. I think I prefer it as a color image, the brown parts of the coat helps emphasis the black face. The background looks a little blown, if you can dial that back a little to get some more detail, much like the bottom of the image, I think it would help, but certainly not a deal breaker with the eye being so focused on the head of the buffalo. Great work!

I really liked your first post, it may work in B&W equally well.
I agree that BG looks little blown, there is a kind of hot spot.
In case you happened to lighten the eyes, increasing the contrast selectively may help.
Looking forward to more images from your repertoire!
