Wood Duck

Taken around the same time, same pond as the Gadwall in my previous post. The pose is not the best, would have been better with a head turn. I was pleased with the detail and colors considering the duck was a fair distance away.

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

Canon 7DII; Sigma 150-600 at 600mm. 1/1000 at f7.1, +1/3; ISO 500.

Excellent light and color. Well composed although you might also drop 5% of the top to give it more of a panoramic frame. Just a matter of preference. Wish I had some of these nearby that I can shoot at this point of view.

Very nice Allen. The colors really line up well on this one. I am also for a bit of pano crop. Head angle does not bother me.

Hi Allen, I really like the colors you have captured both on the bird and water. The water color really sets off the bird nicely. The head angle here works for me. I believe I could go either way with the crop. I find these birds skittish and tough to capture - nice catch.
