Photo taken in deep shade with bright background resulting in a silhouette. I would like to be able to see the bird, but I get purple blotches on the chest, shoulder and throat and an outline and wondered if there is a way to correct the coloured blotches and outline? I used lightroom and Topaz for post processing. Your help would be appreciated.
You may only download this file to demonstrate how you would process the image. The file is Copyright of the photographer, and you must delete the raw file when you are done. Please post a jpg of what you created, explain what you did, and why you did it.
I downloaded your image and tried to work it in my raw processor - Capture One. I see the purple fringing on the outline. I was able to reduce it using the purple fringe tool, but not eliminate it. Frankly, your edit looks very good given the issues with the raw file. Sorry I couldn’t be more help.
Thank you David. Actually I had forgotten about the fringe tool and yes it does help. Thank you. The fringe, I can understand because of brightening the subject so much, but I don’t understand the purple blotchy areas and I don’t know if there is a way to remove them.
what impressed me about this is just how difficult it is to get anything from such a backlit shot!! bravo! So I don’t know what color the bird is supposed to be and I did a correction without looking at your edit. I was looking for something natural, meaning less blue feathers (I took a cue from the green leaves and made them green).
In Adobe Raw, I converted with no sharpening, Shadows +25
drop contrast with curve
then recipe in photoshop
Since this is pushed so hard, it could use some noise reduction IMHO. Also you can crop to taste, which I did not do (trivial). I kind of like the yellow feet!
