Yellowstone Mist

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Arriving at Artist Point in Yellowstone on a recent workshop, we were greeted by lovely mist rising above the canyon walls. It was a race to get the tripod set up, though, as it was clear the mist wasn’t going to last long. I managed to get a couple frames before it disappeared.

Specific Feedback

Any comments welcome. Nothing is blown out, although the mist looks pretty bright. It’s rather an odd composition, but I didn’t want to crop out the left-hand wall because I liked the rim light on it and it gives more context to the scene.

Bonnie, I like the “big V” of the two walls. That helps tell the story of a deep and narrow canyon. The wisps of mist are nicely “swirly”. This is definitely a unique view of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

Hi Bonnie, This is quite a lovely image you have shared with us. The B&W is quite a fine choice and the conversion and the rest of the processing capture the special quality of Yellowstone. I really like how the composition lets us feel the presence of the granite walls.

Thanks, @Mark_Seaver and @guy.
