A Day Late

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Happy New Year to all of you Flora folks and to the rest of NPN. I wanted to post on New Year’s day but the flowers did not cooperate. However on January 2 I spotted this nicely backlit hibiscus as it was opening up and thought it a worthy subject. Looking forward to all of your images in 2026 and as always wishing you great subjects and even better light. >=))>

Specific Feedback

Had to clean up some pesky mites attached to the flower and sepal. Repairs look OK?

Very pretty and so colorful. I’ve never had hibiscus in a garden (probably too far north) and so it’s cool to see one unfurling. Possibly toning down the highlights in the leaves would put more attention on the flower, but that’s just me.

Very cool, Bill. I like the thin slice of focus in this one.

Happy new year, Bill.
This is a good example of a backlit photo with HDR. Thanks for sharing

Bill, I had noticed that you were posting quite a few red flowers here, so I went back to my Cardinal Flower photos from last Sept. By the time I “got around to it”, there’re a number of not so red posts…so much for color coordinating. This is a bright red beauty where the flower contrasts very well with the bright green foliage. The backlighting creates such a fine glow. I also like how the tips of the pistil are peeking out from behind the petal.
