Another Paradise Valley Sunrise

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

I awoke to a promising sunrise, with clouds at the right height and hints of color just above the mountains. I then got to watch (and photograph) an amazing sunrise for more than half an hour as the colors and light changed from deep red to these strong yellows, about 10 minutes before the sun popped above the mountains.

Specific Feedback

This is late in the view, when not letting the yellows saturate and keeping detail in the shadows was the challenge. I especially like that long streak of cloud coming in on the middle left.

Technical Details

R5, 24-105 @ 24, 1/60 s, f/10, iso 800, tripod, -1.33 EV (to hold the bright colors), raised blacks and shadows in Lightroom.

Hi Mark,
Promising indeed; that is what I call an impressive drama laden sky! I love how they fan out across the sky and that one you mentioned on the left looks like a fireball. You have just the right amount of landscape along the bottom to anchor the scene and provide some scale. I hope you post some others from that particular morning. Beautifully done.

Mark, an amazing morning sky here. It is truly a Chamber of Commerce poster scene for this area for sure. Not sure it meets the maritime cliché : “Red sky in the morning , sailors warning. Red sky at night, sailors delight”. Or something in that verbiage of worldly quotes. No thoughts for changes that I can see… :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Mark I love this …like the sky on fire ..love the /3 comp as well .. hats off

Gorgeous, Mark! No nits here! I might have liked a little more foreground, but this works just fine as it is.

Beautifully done, sir!
