Description

Chrissy brought home these dahlias a couple days ago so I got to work them over before she planted them. Was able to catch them in different light and focal lengths, did some HDR with the tight center shot and stacked the other two.

Specific Feedback

Color junkie that I am I’m always tempted to boost saturation but that didn’t seem necessary for these beauties. Your thoughts?

Sony A7r3
Sony FE 70-200 mm f2.8 GM-II, Sony FE 100mm GM Macro w/2x
Various SS, fStops and focal lengths, some HDR and some stacked.

All of these are excellent, Bill, but the one that made me say “WOW” was the second. Getting in really close with the light shining through it worked a treat. I’m wondering if an elliptical mask selecting the center area with a luminosity adjustment would give the first one an extra kick.

Bill, they seem plenty saturated , but, of course that’s built into the breeding. The close-up is “in-your-face” colorful, looks great! The extra oof colors behind #3 add lots of interest and show off both the flower and the foliage well. #1 is also very lovely, but doesn’t grab attention like the other two.

Oh, these are just gorgeous, Bill! The flowers are beautiful. My pick is #3. The yellows in the BG make this outstanding. Really well done.

I agree with the other viewers in that the second image has the most WOW built in and the third image has the perfect BG for the subject’s color. I do like the soft lighting on the first image too. Overall a good series worth posting. I pulled my dahlias out of cold storage and a few are waking up in the basement as the snow is flying outside.
