Arrowhead in Flames

This is from last month in Lafitte. The lazy curve of this Arrowhead caught my eye, and the “artsy” look of the BG just happened to be there. Considering the curvy posture I left it centered intentionally.

What technical feedback would you like if any?

Go for it.

Opinions welcome.

Any pertinent technical details:

7D Mk II, 100-400 II on Wimberley I, ISO 100 1/160 f6.3 0.0EV
Full frame, a little work w/ shadow/highlight overall, and sharpness on plant.

The bottom line is that I really like this. Great background and there is good detail in the flowers. I agree with your choice of composition. Part of me, though, feels as if the background is the main subject.

A beautiful capture of this lovely flower, Bill. I agree with Allan that the background is calling out louder (as if it is the subject) because it seems to be brighter than the subject. It appears that the sunlight was shining on the background and the flower was in the shade. Maybe you can selectively dull down the brightness of the background, as well as brighten the flower. Great composition and the flower appears to be sharp, so hopefully that will improve your image.

Thanks Allen & Shirley for the comments. Allen, what prompted me to post this in the first place was the “flaming” BG, so I tend to agree with you. Arrowhead clusters I’ve found in Lafitte are often a little disheveled, and this curved posture was what made me stop to look. Shirley, you have a very good point about selective luminosity options. I recall looking at that but didn’t spend much time on it, so I’ll have another look.

Bill: Marvelous BG that does command attention. I think it would be even better if you cropped the left side to eliminate the fairly hard stems in the corners. Well seen and nicely captured. >=))>
