Autumn creek

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Although I’m putting this in the abstract category, it’s a straight photo with minimal processing. I was hiking beside a creek, seeing what there was to see, and this grabbed my eye.

Specific Feedback

All feedback is welcome.

Technical Details

ISO 1000, 70mm. f/11. 1/30th sec., tripod, polarizer. I adjusted the tones in Lightroom and Photoshop. Originally I made this one much warmer but that resulted in clipping in the red channel so I had to back off, which I think was probably a good idea anyway.

I like this a lot, Don. Particularly the transition from the somewhat horizontally oriented ripples to the more circular ones at the bottom of the frame. The tonality and colors also work nicely.

Thanks, Dennis. I also noticed that the top and bottom halves of the image are quite different, but they work well together.

Don, a very cool image. I love the bright abstract colours and the water swirls. It’s very well-balanced and really draws me in.
A very fine image!

Thank you, Sandy.

Don, I like the way the center right patch of green allows me to look either down to the water ripples or up and to the left looking at the brighter foliage. My only suggestion is the top lhs green area might be a bit bright for me, pulling my attention away from the ripple / forest transition. A fine photo.

Thanks for the feedback, Rob.

Don, this is a fine reflection abstract. The transition from small ripples above to moving water below adds good interest and an additional level of abstraction. The top half has a fine “impressionist” look.

Thanks, Mark.
